  • What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a long-term health condition that affects how your body converts food into energy.

The majority of the food you consume is converted into sugar (also known as glucose) and released into your bloodstream. When the blood sugar rises, your pancreas sends a warning to release insulin. Insulin functions as a key to allow blood sugar into the body's cells for use as energy.

If you have diabetes, the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not use the insulin produced as well as it can. Too much blood sugar remains in the body when there is little insulin or when cells stop responding to insulin. This can lead to major health issues over time such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease over time.

Here at Diabetic Supply Inc., we provide diabetic supplies to help those living with diabetes an easier and more comfortable option to taking control of their diabetes.

  • What are the different types of diabetes?

There are 2 different types of diabetes that our diabetic supplies can help with, and these 2 types are called Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. Learn more about them below:

    Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is believed to be caused by an autoimmune response (the body mistakenly fighting itself) that prevents the body from producing insulin. Type 1 diabetes affects between 5-10% of all diabetics, where it is most often diagnosed in infants, teenagers, and young adults. It is also notable to mention that the symptoms always appear rapidly. To survive living with type 1 diabetes, you will need to take insulin every day, and there is currently no prevention for type 1 diabetes.

    Type 2 Diabetes

When you have type 2 diabetes, the body can not use insulin well and cannot maintain natural blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes affects 90-95 % of diabetics. It takes several years to develop and is commonly diagnosed in adults, but studies have shown that it is becoming more and more common in children, teens, and young adults. Since some signs can go unnoticed, it is important to have your blood sugar checked if you are at risk. Type 2 diabetes can be avoided or slowed by making healthier lifestyle improvements such as losing weight, consuming healthy foods, and getting enough exercise.
